Xin Hui

On the 13th December, Saturday, it was my mum's Graduation ceremony, and we were all excited. I was really proud of my mum because not only has she successfully graduate without any failures, she was even top 4 in the level, which is really a feat.

Although she only studied in the Polytechnic when she was young, but she truly showed the '活到老,学到老' spirit, and also lots of perseverance. It was really difficult for her as I saw here rushing home after her work to complete her assignments, often missing her dinner, working through late midnight, and the next day, she would have go go to work again. During the weekends, she would abandon her favorite past-time of shopping, just to continue revising for her tests, or complete her assignments, and only once in a blue moon, then will she go out to shop, or take a break. Anyone in this 'half-work-half-study' situation would have been so stressed out, and would have thought of giving up. That goes for my mother. She was really stressed out when she almost failed her very first assignment, and thought of giving up. But what make her think twice about quitting the course was the money she invested into her education. It was her hard earned money which she put in all her
sweat and effort to earn. That was what that motivated her to work even harder to strive for excellence.

I feel that my mother is really a role model for me, as she has taught me that hard work is the most important aspect to success, and her hard work was what I saw with my own eyes. I feel that even though we are not the ones paying for our school fees, and paying for our own food and transport, we should also cherish our time in school and the food we have. Those money used to pay our school fees, those money given to us as pocket money does not drop from the sky, but it is the money that our parents earn by working hard all day at work, doing reports, facing their bosses, and getting scolded when they make a small mistake. We may think that our parents' jobs are easy, but which of us follows our parents to work and see how they get scolded by their bosses, and even understand how they feel when that happens? The feeling of unfairness, injustice, anger, can we ever understand that feeling when our parents have tried their best yet they are still reprimanded by their superiors? It is probably when we start earning our own money then we will understand the hardship to earning these money we now have which we take for granted. I think we should all cherish the time in lessons
and classes, because our parents paid every minute and second for it. Instead of playing or chatting in class, maybe we should be more attentive, so we can learn more, and our teachers can teach more, so we would not waste our parents money. I really aspire to become someone like my mother in future, someone who never gives up, someone who never slack off, and someone, who learns no matter what her age is. We are all very proud of her.

Before the photos

This December Holiday, I did not travel overseas, staying in Singapore with most of my time spent at home. Although my holiday was mostly spent with books in the library, I also had a chance to go on a family trip to the Singapore Zoo. The last time I have visited the zoo was about 6 years ago. Many have changed since my last visit there. I thought that it was a trip that's wastes my time and I moaned as I was forced to go along.

                                                         -Meerkats-

Although it was a rather tiring day, it was a very fun and educational trip to the zoo. I came in contact with many animals and saw some which I have never seen in my life before. As we head home, I changed my perspective of my trip to the zoo. As I explore and see many animals and insects, I truly felt the beauty of nature there.  It was a rather fulfilling trip and I had fun that day.
